Gifts any mom would love on Mother’s Day

There’s a myriad of gifts to give your mom this Mother’s Day but giving her something useful, practical and that will last is what we all desire for our special “Mama”.

So here are five (5) gifts any mom would love to receive on Mother’s Day.

  • Organic soaps

Every mom loves to be pampered and bath time is no exemption. Lathering in organic, handmade and natural soaps is the most inexpensive luxury. Main reason is because they often lack time and just stick with the basic skin care – a gentle bar of soap. Gift her with one that is not just any soap but also effective to remove skin problems like acne, pimple marks, warts, and other imperfections. Tried and tested by the Japanese – Kojic Acid Soap is a perfect example, and so are the likes of Rice, Oatmeal, Gluthatione, & Papaya Soaps.

Why you should try Sheet Masks

The genius of Korean Beauty (K-Beauty) – sheet mask sensation is the latest in skincare. Became widely popular that even western beauty companies had to quickly conform.

So why try one?

1. It’s life-changing.

While Koreans use sheet masks as part of their Korean 10-step program, we Pinays are relatively new to this trend. And now we’d see our fave K-pop stars wearing one with goofy & candid selfies. And as loyal fans, we might as well take the habit like our idols 😉

One of the biggest benefits of Face Sheet Mask is that it delivers product deep into the skin in a concentrated way. It’s conveniently applying product with occlusion (cover) to penetrate deeply into the skin. Mud masks or other creams when applied directly in skin evaporates rapidly leaving very little to absorb in our deprived skin. So having a cover in sheet masks, the skin transforming ingredients seep into the skin like magic.

Thus providing instant effects in regards to skin’s moisture, elasticity, pre-mature aging and pore care.

2. It’s affordable!

I know most of us are money savvy but masks are actually much affordable!

It’s an inexpensive way to treat yourself than spending thousands on facials.

3. It’s relaxing…

😉 The best way to pamper yourself without breaking the bank. All it takes is 20 minutes and you can listen to Spotify, watch GOT, meditate, or read a book while on mask!

Why not? For sheet mask as low as P30 you can enjoy this trend at the comfort of your own home ❤️

How to look lovely when you’re always in a hurry

I’m following this beauty guru in YouTube for years now – Wayne Goss. This expert knows what he’s talking about. He makes videos and known for his brief, effective and practical beauty hacks and makeup lessons. Goss makes everything simple, a basic eyeshadow trick for even the laziest girls. Much of what I’ve learned are from him and from a few other famous personalities in the web.

Yes there’s hope,

💕

I’m sharing some useful tips for us Pinays who are always nagmamadali or always on the go.

💕

Tip #1 – Choose products wisely

Select products that will help you achieve that wow look in no time, like BB creams or tinted moisturizers. Skipping a few steps in our daily struggle is crucial. After skincare, apply a fair amount of BB cream/tinted moisturizer. You’ll be surprised, they’re so easy to apply and blend compared to liquid or cream foundations as your base.

Tip #2 – Kilay is Life (eyebrow is life)

Haha, but yes it is. Eyebrow is huge nowadays. I can’t imagine myself going out with no eyebrows or my brows in halves, shameless! Don’t fret my loves, there’s a ton of brow products in the market right now for as low as P100. Make sure to pick the one that’s long wearing and with spooly/brush.

Tip #3 – Eye makeup in a flash

I actually skip this step most of the time since I’m wearing my glasses. But, when certain occasions demand a quick eye makeup, I’ve got an arsenal of products that’s highly recommended. Stick eyeshadow is heaven sent and will give you the fastest eye makeup imaginable. Yes, in less than a minute for me 😉 Just swipe and blend with your fingers, easy peasy! Apply liner or mascara as desired and voila pretty eyes.

Tip #4 – Crush blush

Flaunt your cheeks baby. Yes, rosy and plump cheeks is a sign of youth and vitality. And like what I’ve learned from Goss, you can use the same blush to subtly contour your face by applying it in the high points of your face. For that youthful and lovely sun kissed glow.

Tip #4 – Lipstick finale

This is no doubt a no-brainer trick, when it comes to appearing put up in an instant, lipstick is the key. One swipe and you’re good to go. Choose moisturizing lipsticks over drying matte ones if you like to avoid putting on lip balm.

Hope these help, till next post.

❤️ Mitch

Beauty 101: Kojic Acid

What is Kojic Acid?

Kojic Acid – is derived from several species of fungi and is known to limit melanin production. A fungus – “aspergillus oryzae” which in Japanese named as “Koji”, hence the name Kojic Acid. It is a by-product in the fermentation process of malting rice, for use in the manufacturing of sake, the Japanese rice wine.[1] It is a mild inhibitor of the formation of pigment in plant and animal tissues, and is used in food and cosmetics to preserve or change colors of substances.

A fungus – “aspergillus oryzae” which in Japanese named as “Koji”, hence the name Kojic Acid.

There are many uses of Kojic Acid, here in the Philippines it’s a widely known component of whitening soaps. Other uses of this acid include; prevention of oxidative browning on fruits during cutting and production, to preserve the red/pink colors of seafood, and as antibacterial and anti-fungal. These useful benefits aside from naturally lightening the skin only prove that Kojic Acid is indeed a wonderful discovery from nature.

here in the Philippines it’s a widely known component of whitening soaps

Let’s discuss the side-effects of Kojic Acid, these “side-effects” maybe beneficial for some but harmful for sensitive and irritated skin.

  • this acid is a peeling agent and should be used with caution. It assists in skin exfoliation to remove dead skin cells, oil, dirt and debris from our skin

  • penetrates deeply into the skin and remove the outermost layer of the skin

  • As the outermost layer is stripped off, new skin is exposed. Kojic Acid enhances cellular turnover to compensate for the lost tissue during exfoliation. Your skin now has clean, soft, smooth, flawless, and fair skin

  • Kojic Acid, as an acid and may alter some of the skin’s normal flora. According to Material Safety study by Oxford, it was found out that Kojic Acid – as purely unprocessed Kojic – is a dangerous substance by itself so it’s better to read product labels, go for the organic and natural ingredients before putting anything to your face

kojic soap
we recommend – Organic Kojic Gold Soap. Click this photo for details.

After exfoliation, the new skin underneath is more sensitive. The new, fresh skin is more sensitive to sunlight, pollution, radiation, and to other harsh products. It’s a must to apply sunscreen with SPF 20 or higher especially when going out to avoid further damage on skin. Sun Protection

The skin is now also at risk for dryness so apply a generous amount of moisturizer or lotion while using Kojic acid.

20229106_325582991215407_8926234182459036295_n
we also recommend a variation of Kojic Soap with the addition of Papaya to whiten and moisturize the skin. Click this photo for details

Kojic acid is an important product in skin whitening but should be use with caution and ample product knowledge. It’s always best to go for natural and organic.

hope this helps 🙂

Tips for fighting Oily Summer Skin

During hot summer days, our skin tends to be more greasy, problematic and attention-seeking. Yes, it was one of my greatest concern too!

Makeup lasts a few hours till we notice that our foundation is breaking apart, melting down and that eeww feeling as we watch in horror how our investment on makeup is going to waste.

Lo and behold, I have my tried and tested tips for Oily Summer Skin.

get-rid-of-oily-skin-on-face

Lo and behold, I have my tried and tested tips for Oily Summer Skin.

  • Tip #1 – Use Moisturizer! stick with oil-free types.

And it may be helpful to opt for products that are specifically made for oily, acne prone skin. If we don’t moisturize our skin becomes thirsty, it will then produce more oil and the sebaceous glands will be crazi-er.

  • Tip #2 – Apply Sunblock.

My holy grail product next to moisturizer is sunblock or sun creams. Don’t skip applying a teaspoon-amount on your face just because it’s cloudy. Most harmful rays still get through those clouds and hurt your beautiful skin. Study also suggests that sunblock helps control oil and shine.

  • Tip #3 – Choose BB creams or Tinted Moisturizers.

Wearing cream foundation is heavy on skin and may even block pores which may lead to more skin problems like blackheads or acne.

  • Tip #4 – Exfoliate.

It won’t be part of Korean’s 10-step skin routine for nothin’. Exfoliating at least two times a week is the way to have smooth, clear, & oil-free skin!

  • Tip #5 – Detoxify with Masks.

I have a few recommendations; try masks with Green tea like this budget-friendly mask from Baroness, a popular Korean brand. Or a vitamin enriched one like Baroness Vitamin C mask. They also have Aloe Vera to soothe tired/sensitive skin, & Collagen Masks for anti-aging. Other Korean brands like Innisfree, The Faceshop and Petitfee have fruit infused masks to revitalize and deep cleansed the skin.

These masks will do wonders on your skin while you relax 🙂

Hope these tips will help!

K-pop Beauty

I always wonder why Koreans seem to have the fairest, prettiest and nicest skin. In awe while watching Korean novelas on tv and surprised that even their male actors have luminous & fair skin. No, it must be more than genetics…. So I began my intensive study, first on their products and then their routine.

This is what I found out;

  • Almost all of their products contain natural ingredients like Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Green Tea, Fruit extracts, etc.

  • Moisturizers, creams or serums contain a natural & potent whitening ingredient called – Niacinamide

  • Beauty products for oily, acne-prone and problematic skin mostly have – Jeju Volcanic Clay – can only be found in Korea, which effectively clears enlarged pores, brightens skin tone and improves skin texture. It’s known as the ‘Super Volcanic Clay’ that’s been long used by Koreans to treat various skin conditions.

Jeju is a place in South Korea

  • Some uses Pearl powder, licorice and all the nice stuff on their products which help in maintaining fair and luminous skin

  • All products claim to be free of mineral oil, synthetic or artificial perfumes and animal originated ingredients – meaning animal cruelty free! yay!

I also talked about their 10-step routine from last post  → Korean Makeup ♥ you are welcome to read that, too! 🙂

that’s all for today, see you again my lovelies ♥

Self Confidence for All

Today, I felt the need to post something about – confidence or self esteem. Many of us had or have low self-esteem. It’s deeply rooted from painful childhood experiences, neglect, abuse, illness/debilitation, painful life events such as losing loved ones or a job, divorce, and the most common is discrimination.

As a daughter, grandchild, mother, sister and friend, my dream is to empower people most especially women and young ones and help them boost their self confidence. Yes it’s not easy, I know. I’ve seen enough death in my family, my granddad who was like a father to me died in a car accident when I was very young, sudden passing of my younger brother then my father. And to add discrimination and scrutiny on the side. The negative early events later on become contributors to Low Self Esteem.

I’m no expert but I’m talking based on experience. It’s never too late to believe, to stand up and it all starts with forgiveness. To let go of these thoughts, forgive yourself and always remember that there’s always another chance. New hope.
Think positive. Instead of saying, “I’m a loser” or “no one really likes me” why don’t you talk to yourself and be your first and only effective motivator and coach – “You can do this!”

Positivity leads to positive outcomes.

Smile, laugh and surround yourself with happy and positive people. You’ll feel better as go through the process. They say faking confidence can help, and that’s true. I’ve tried that many times, put your chin up, dress up, use accessories or wear makeup just to elevate self confidence.

When you look better, you will feel better.

And it may take time and effort. But trust me, I’ve been there and it will all be worth it…

with much love,

mindful_mp
