Novena to Sto. Niño (de Cebu) First Day

ACT OF CONTRITION

Oh, my Dear Jesus! You are our King and our God, because of Your love for us, You came down from heaven born of the Virgin Mary. My heart weeps, for in spite of Your goodness we have committed many sins. Forgive us, oh Jesus, for our sin of ingratitude in return for Your goodness. Strengthen our will to resist temptation and sin. With your grace, we will be able to fulfill our promises and share with Your glory in heaven.

Oh Holy Child Jesus, who is ever good and loving, we kneel before You our God. With humility we implore You to give us Your mercy and grant us all the favors we ask of You in this novena, so that we will enjoy the blessings of heaven. Amen

Supplications to Sto. Niño

Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. Jesus, hear us. Jesus, graciously hear us.

In every need let us come to you in humble trust, Sto. Niño, help us.

In all our doubts, perplexities, and temptations, Sto Niño, help us.

In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials, Sto. Niño, help us.

In disappointments, troubles and sorrows, Sto. Niño, help us.

When others fail us and your grace alone can assist us, Sto. Niño, help us.

When we throw ourselves on your tender love as our only refuge, Sto. Niño, help us.

When our hearts are cast down by failures, Sto. Niño, help us.

When we are ill, and our head and hands cannot work and we are lonely, Sto. Niño, help us.

When we feel impatient and our cross irritates us, Sto. Niño, help us.

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and shortcomings of every kind, Sto. Niño, help us.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world; Spare us, O Jesus.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world; Graciously her us, O Jesus.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world; Have mercy upon us, O Jesus.

Jesus, hear us. Jesus, graciously hear us.

V/. Praised be the name of the Lord. R/. Now and forever.

LET US PRAY

Oh, sweet and merciful Jesus! Senyor Santo Niño, the source of all goodness, we kneel before Your sacred image, imploring Your divine aid for universal peace and brotherhood among all men. Enlighten the believers and the heathens so that they will believe you as their true God. Restore the faith of those who have wandered away from you, bring them back to your fold with repentance in their hearts.

Grant also to faithful departed in purgatory the remission of all their sins so that they will rest in peace forever. Finally, nourish and strengthen our faith so that we will serve you faithfully here on earth. Amen

Rene Espina, a life well lived

Former Senator Rene Espina, who authored the country’s first anti-illegal drugs law, died on Friday, his son Erik has confirmed in a social media post. The elder Espina was 89.
“Another light dimmed in the passing of a good man who loved his country,” the Espina son said on his Facebook page.

The Senate on Wednesday, September 18, honored the late senator Rene Espina, author of the country’s first anti-drug law.

Espina was a member of the 7th Congress from 1969 to 1972. He died of kidney complications on September 13, 2019.

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said Espina was ahead of his time as he sought to flag the effects of illegal drugs in the country. Espina authored Republic Act No. 6425 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972.
“Forty-seven years ago, Senator Espina had already identified the country’s illegal drug problem, although it was still at its incipient stage, as an emerging threat to human security,” Drilon said.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III said that Espina had demonstrated that “a life in public service is a life well-lived.” Espina’s anti-drug law was the precursor to Sotto’s Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
“That he was the author and sponsor of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972 again placed him as a co-warrior in the fight against illegal drugs,” Sotto said.

The Senate held necrological services to honor the late senator on Wednesday.
