What is Adenomyosis?

April is Adenomyosis Awareness Month

Disclaimer: The information on this post is not intended to diagnose, treat or evaluate a condition. It is for informative purpose only, for individuals seeking general information.

Adenomyosis is a condition in which the lining of the uterus grows into the walls of the uterus

– Yale Medicine

Adenomyosis (pronounced add-en-o-my-OH-sis) is a gynecological condition that causes the tissue that normally lines the uterus (endometrial tissue) grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. It enlarges the uterus, and may lead to painful and very heavy menstrual bleeding.

Experts are not sure what causes adenomyosis.

Symptoms

Sometimes, adenomyosis causes no signs or symptoms or only mild discomfort. However, most symptoms are overwhelming such as the ff:

  • Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia)
  • Severe cramping or sharp, knifelike pelvic pain during menstruation (dysmenorrhea)
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Painful intercourse (dyspareunia)
  • bloating

Treatments for adenomyosis include hormonal contraceptives (pills), pain medication and surgery. Some women with mild symptoms choose to manage adenomyosis nonsurgically until they enter menopause. Women with severe symptoms need a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus).

Signs God is Testing You

Are you encountering problems and in a really difficult situation right now?

You are not alone.

Like many Christians, we are being tested as we grow closer to Jesus.

I’m sharing something personal for me. Before, I was afraid of studying the bible, this negative notion – “if I grow spiritually I may not be able to pass the testing of God, I might face difficult challenges and fail Him without end.”

I realized that it’s my ego that has been creating excuses; because I’m already a good person, I’ve read the bible before in school and there’s no need to do more, too busy, etc.

Until ordeals came…

When harships occur in our life, it is called a test.

These tests are not the same as tempation. The bible says that God will not tempt us to sin. God is faithful and will not let you be tempted beyond your capabilities.

When tempted, no one can say, “God is tempting me.” for God cannot be tempted by evil nor does He tempt anyone.

– James 1:13

God may test us in many ways. Part of our spiritual journey is testing, as gold is refined through fire, in the same manner, God will use trials to refine our faith.

Without trials our faith will be superficial and there’s no chance for faith to become stronger and deeper. Many people tend to forget God when everything is convenient and they have everything they need.

For those undergoing huge challenges – hope this post lifts you up a little and help you not be discouraged… These are the signs God may be testing your faith.

Signs that God is testing you

  1. Delayed answers to prayers
  2. Family problem
  3. Hopelessness
  4. Failure to achieve goals
  5. Financial issues
  6. Heartbreak
  7. Illness

The last one I can relate the most, dealing with chronic illness for a looong time. I waited, even up to this day… I even imagined myself as the woman who was miraculously healed after touching Jesus’ robe (Luke 8:44).

With similar issue – hemorrhage (bleeding) for 12 years, maybe I could be like her,

I will be healed…

Let this be a reminder for us all, if we choose to trust Jesus and allow His peace to overwhelm us, He will bring us through the storm.

Pride according to the Bible

God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

1 Peter 5:5

The biblical definition of pride is “an inordinate love of one’s own excellence.” In fact, pride was Satan’s downfall. He chose his pride and placed himself of equal with God the Father. Satan was destroyed because of pride and so he wants us to suffer the same demise.

Pride goes down to the very core of worry and anxiety, revealing a lack of trust in God. It has been called the cancer of the soul, the “beginning of all sin.”

When does pride becomes a sin?

Pride becomes sinful when it’s excessively self-focused. Sin of pride refers to a high or exalted attitude – the opposite virtue of humility. In the bible, synonyms are insolence, presumptuousness, arrogance, conceit, high-mindedness, egotism.

It becomes a sin when we are too proud and self-elevating. When we are proud it’s like we are saying that we know better than God and that we don’t need Him anymore. It’s a form of rebellion, putting our own desires and plans ahead of what God designed for us.

More Bible Verses about Pride

  • Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
  • To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, even behavior and perverse speech. Proverbs 8:13
  • Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed. 1 Samuel 2:3
  • Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. Proverbs 13:10
  • Will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. Isaiah 13:11
  • You have been deceived by your own pride. Obadiah 3
  • Pride leads to disgarce but wuth humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2

There are six things that the Lord hates, guess what Pride is included in the list…

Proverbs 6:16-19

16  There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17         haughty eyes,
        a lying tongue,
        hands that shed innocent blood,
18         a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19         a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

A simpler version from CEV (Contemporary English Version) –

There are 6 or 7 kinds of people that the Lord doesn’t like; those who are too proud or tell lies or murder, those who make evil plans or quick to do wrong, those who tell lies or stir up conflct in a family or community.

Prayer to St. Pedro Calungsod

After Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, Calungsod is the second Filipino to be declared a saint. He’s also known as Peter Calungsod and Pedro Calonsor. Depression vs Bipolar Disorder

Sharing my notes, hoping to spread valuable information using simple terms and practical examples.

Disclaimer: The information on this post is not intended to diagnose, treat or evaluate a condition. It is for informative purpose only, for individuals seeking general information.

Everyone feels down or euphoric from time to time, but this is different from having a mood disorder such as major depressive disorder or bipolar disorder.

Mood disorders are extended periods of depressed, euphoric, or irritable moods that in combination with other symptoms cause the person significant distress and interfere with his or her daily life, often resulting in social and work issues.

Mood Disorders

Major Depressive Episode (Depression)

A major depressive episode (MDE) refers to symptoms that co-occur for at least two weeks and cause significant distress or impairment in functioning, such as interfering with work, school, or relationships.

Core symptoms include feeling down or depressed or experiencing anhedonia—loss of interest or pleasure in things that one typically enjoys. According to the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5; APA, 2013), the criteria for an MDE require five or more of the following nine symptoms, including one or both of the first two symptoms, for most of the day, nearly every day:

  1. depressed mood
  2. diminished interest or pleasure in almost all activities
  3. significant weight loss or gain or an increase or decrease in appetite
  4. insomnia or hypersomnia
  5. psychomotor agitation or retardation
  6. fatigue or loss of energy
  7. feeling worthless or excessive or inappropriate guilt
  8. diminished ability to concentrate or indecisiveness
  9. recurrent thoughts of death, suicidal ideation, or a suicide attempt

These symptoms cannot be caused by physiological effects of a substance or a general medical condition (e.g., hypothyroidism).

One of the main differences from Bipolar Disorder is that in depression there is no manic or “up” episodes.

Types of Depression are major depressive disorder (MDD) and persistent depressive disorder (PDD; dysthymia). Criteria for PDD are feeling depressed most of the day for more days than not, for at least two years.

At least two of the following symptoms are also required to meet criteria for PDD:

  1. poor appetite or overeating
  2. insomnia or hypersomnia
  3. low energy or fatigue
  4. low self-esteem
  5. poor concentration or difficulty making decisions
  6. feelings of hopelessness

Bipolar Mood Disorders

There are two episodes in Bipolar Disorder – hence the term bipolar.

  1. Depressive Episode
  2. Manic Episode

The criteria for manic episode is a distinct period of abnormally and persistently euphoric, expansive, or irritable mood and persistently increased goal-directed activity or energy.

Symptoms of mania include;

  1. inflated self-esteem or grandiosity
  2. increased goal-directed activity or psychomotor agitation
  3. reduced need for sleep
  4. racing thoughts or flight of ideas
  5. distractibility
  6. more talkative than usual
  7. excessive involvement in risky or reckless behaviors (drugs, money, sex)

Three major types of BDs are described by the DSM-5 (APA, 2013). Bipolar I Disorder (BD I), which was previously known as manic-depression, is characterized by a single (or recurrent) manic episode. A depressive episode is not necessary but commonly present for the diagnosis of BD I. Bipolar II Disorder is characterized by single (or recurrent) hypomanic episodes and depressive episodes. Another type of BD is cyclothymic disorder, characterized by numerous and alternating periods of hypomania and depression, lasting at least two years. To qualify for cyclothymic disorder, the periods of depression cannot meet full diagnostic criteria for an MDE; the person must experience symptoms at least half the time with no more than two consecutive symptom-free months; and the symptoms must cause significant distress or impairment.

In simple terms – Bipolar is characterized by mood swings that fluctuate between depressing lows and manic highs.

It is important to note that the DSM-5 was was published in 2013, and findings based on the updated manual will be forthcoming. Consequently, the research presented below was largely based on a similar, but not identical, conceptualization of mood disorders drawn from the DSM-IV (APA, 2000).
